Laboratory Calorimeters

Calorimeters are scientific instruments that are used to measure the amount of heat energy that is involved in a chemical or physical process. The basic principle behind calorimetry is that when a chemical reaction or physical change takes place, it can either release heat energy to the surroundings or absorb heat energy from the surroundings.

Calorimeters work by measuring the heat exchange between the system being studied and its surroundings. The system and surroundings are thermally isolated from one another, and any heat released or absorbed during the process can be measured by monitoring changes in temperature, pressure, or other thermodynamic variables.
