Description
The IKA® HABITAT photo cell is the photobioreactor control tower for cell-culture applications on the IKA HABITAT research benchtop bioreactor. Its two LED light panels turn a HABITAT system into a photobioreactor for cultivating photosynthetic organisms such as algae, supporting bioprocesses like biofuel research and CO2 sequestration. The tower houses the control unit with full connectivity for gas supply, liquid addition, multi-parameter sensors and temperature control, plus a 10.4-inch tablet for operating the bioreactor. Four built-in mass flow controllers (N2, O2, air, CO2) deliver cell-range 10–2000 cc/min gassing, and four integrated Watson-Marlow peristaltic pumps handle acid, base, anti-foam and feed dosing. Standard monitoring covers pH, DO (dissolved oxygen), temperature, level and foam; CO2, conductivity and turbidity sensors are available separately. The bioprocess software supports batch, fed-batch and perfusion/continuous modes with calibration management, real-time data, and optional FDA 21 CFR Part 11 documentation. PID temperature control works with single-wall vessels (heating blanket) or double-wall vessels (with an IKA thermostat, 5–80 °C). Note: the control tower requires a separately available HABITAT vessel package to form a complete, functional bioreactor.
